Head of Business Development
Fusion Building Systems
Subject: Project to Product thinking: The Golden Thread
Having worked in the light gauge steel industry since 2000 Robert is one of the most knowledgeable members of the Fusion Building Systems’ team.
After graduating from Aberdeen University in 1985 with a BSc in Geology and Mineralogy, Robert spent 15 years with Tarmac in Heavy Building Materials, joining as a geologist before studying for an MBA and moving on to lead International Business Development. In 2000 he joined the Fleming Group in Ireland and undertook the initial research and development that led to the Fusion system – and to the company being established.
Between 2005 and 2010, as general manager UK, Robert oversaw the rapid growth of Fusion up until the demise of the Fleming Group during the financial crisis of 2009.
Following a brief spell where he helped set up and gain certification for another light gauge steel system, Robert re-joined Fusion in 2011, under new owners Mike Fairey and Tom Salvesen and has helped grow the business once again, at an average range of 50 per cent per year.
Now as head of business development, Robert has a central role to play in Fusion’s future. He regularly speaks at industry conference and events on the merits of offsite construction, sharing his thorough understanding of both the industry and Fusion’s bespoke system.
Robert lives near Market Harborough with his wife and son. He enjoys watching rugby and going skiing.
